Pono Pacific has experience in controlling many small predators in Hawaii. Control of avian predators (rats and mongoose) during the breeding season of native bird populations has been shown to increase their reproductive success rates. In assisting with these efforts, Pono Pacific can set-up and monitor poison stations, snap traps, and live traps. Pono Pacific can also aid in bird and nest monitoring, data collection, and data analysis. Pono Pacific has helped in the restoration of native and endangered water bird and forest bird species through its predator control services. Currently we assist all the US Fish and Wildlife Refuges on Oahu, Hawaii as well as help to care for the majority of the monitored elepaio (Chasiempis sandwichensis) on Oahu, Hawaii.
Ungulates (animals with hooves) can be one of the most destructive forces to Hawaii’s ecosystems. Pigs, deer and goats devastate plant life by over foraging, eating root systems and saplings, and creating harmful erosion. Pono Pacific can help with the removal of ungulates, establish monitoring and data collection, and prevention through fence construction. Pono Pacific can also integrate technology such as GPS and GIS mapping to help monitor herds, find fence breaches, and map the areas being serviced.
